It may seem like we've been quiet from the outside, but OB Towers is actually a hive of activity on the inside! Perhaps 'hive' is to strong a word, actually. And also perhaps 'activity', too. Okay, let's have a go at that again; OB Towers has been a saunter of movement on the inside!
We've slowed a little over the last few weeks due to varying reasons, but we are back with a tasty treat for all of you interested in games which take place in the infinite vacuum that surrounds our ball of dirt; Dropfleet Commander!
We decided to film a game between Joe and I, using UCM and Scourge respectively, and pair it along with out first impressions of the game. Before you get giddy and point out all the rules mistakes made, this is my second and Joe's fourth game so please cut us a little slack!
Enjoy!
Like the format a lot. And good review at the end.
ReplyDeleteAs for the game you played: I guess those UCM frigates got a bit too excited and rushed into the dragons den to die in a horrible ball of plasma flame... :D
Joe was trying the rush I think, but due to orbital layers he wasn't able to target the Chimera effciently enough so had to settle for a Gargoyle, which probs wasn't worth it...
DeleteFantastic video battle report, thanks for putting that together!
ReplyDeletegreat video, love the format. It is quick but you still get a good sense of what is taking place, given you need to understand the rules. Do your homework and read the rules. My wife and I have played one game PHR(me) vs UCM(her) starters, and she just wrecked me. We got a few rules wrong and things needed to be looked up but this is just standard in first time runs. Given the way the first game went, she likes the game system. i need to get that rematch though. Can't wait for the kickstarter to be shipped so we can play 1500pts games. Once again, thanks for the hard work in supporting and given content to an amazing gaming system. Both dropzone and dropfleet will be the games to play.
ReplyDeleteGreat video, Lads, thank you! I, too, really like the format. Good review at the end, too. Looking forward to more VBRs, for Dropfleet and Dropzone!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think they'll be doing for tournament scoring? As you saw, there can be quite a disparity between VP scores!
Having only played 2 games and 1 scenario it's hard to say, but W/D/L will probs work best.
DeleteI had the idea of a primary/secondary points system. Something along the lines of
DeletePrimary mission - win the clusters 5 tournament points
Secondary mission - win the critical Locations 3 tournament points
Bonus: Destroy the Admiral - 1 tournament point
Bonus: More than twice the kill points - 1 tournament point
Therefore each mission you could get 10 tournament points
Actually, I may do a post on it, I have a few ideas, plus a few reasons why certain mission types won't work
DeleteThat's a cool idea, your points system, but how would it work with scoring in turns 4 and 6? Kinda defeats the purpose... :-/
DeleteCould count up how many clusters you controlled on Turn 4, and how many on Turn 6, and add them together? Or, because of contesting, count up your VPs just from clusters, and whomever has the most gets the 5 TPs... Yeah, that's better... Same with CLs, keep track of your VPs for CL separately from your VPs from Clusters over both turn 4 and turn 6...
That's exactly it JD, total up VPs for clusters in turns 4 and 6, whoever has the most gets 5 tournament points, same for critical location, total up VPs for turns 4 and 6, whoever has the most gets 3 tournament points.
DeleteThe more I think about it, the more I like it
What about First Blood? Or getting units in your opponents deployment zone?
ReplyDeleteYou're joking, right? I ~Despise~ First Blood, and there are no Deployment Zones...
DeleteWhat about extra VPs for speaking like a Scourge all game? Or doing a handstand while you play and moving minis around with your toes?
