Sacrificial Lambs

Keeping your units alive in any wargame is of course a no-brainer. After all, the more guys and gals you have in the warzone the more advantageous your position is, and the more likely you are to score additional Victory Points in a tournament environment (using Hawk's rulepack). Typically your secondary purpose, after completing the mission, is to make sure all of your toy soldiers make it home to their toy partners and toy children, and can share a delightful toy Christmas with each other, where they give each other... toys?

As we all know and have experienced though, it isn't always that easy, and sometimes you have to make the hard decision of sacrificing some of your soldiers, leaving weepy toy widows sad and alone. As the saying goes, you will sometimes have to melt a few toys to make a bigger, weird, malformed toy. Or for the less alternative of you, having to break a few eggs to make an omelette. Speaking metaphorically, it is important when making your omelette that you don't get any shell in the mix, otherwise you'll spend the rest of the game picking it out and rectifying your mess. Also be careful not to overcook it, you want to fry on a low heat. I still need to get the hang of metaphors I think. Anyway...

Never fear, I'm here to help destroy all your toys!

Establishing A Force: Resistance

It has been a while, but it is finally time to scrape the rust of my lazy fingers and bring all you budding survivalists the next entry in my 'Establishing A Force' series; Let's talk Resistance!

When I mention rust, it wasn't by accident, oh nono, that was a clever segue my friends, as in the Resistance you will be seeing a whole load of rust! It will be coming at you in the form of old dishevelled and re-purposed cars and wagons, fossilised helicopters and positively antique tanks! Let's take a moment to imagine driving a Hannibal into the Antiques Roadshow and crushing Fiona Bruce into human jam; now there's an episode I'd tune in for (this is a terribly English reference, all you foreigners will have to Google it)! They even have a battlegroup name after the effect; Rusted Fist!

UK Admiral Beta day

Fore note: This post will NOT have any rules, ship points, fleet lists etc. It is my run through of the day and how it went, along with my feelings on the game as we stand.

Being a local Talon (now official since early Feb) I was asked if I wanted to help Hawk out at the UK Admiral Beta test day. Obviously I jumped at the chance.
I am in at Commodore level (and some, with all the extra shineys), but having had a couple of play-tests of the rules (pre-beta) I guess I'm in a decent position to help out.

Mr Resistance - Day 2

I'm back again for my battle report of day 2. Ill go over my last 2 games then reflect on the list I took and how I could better it. Sorry it's taken a while, I thought you would prefer the podcasts first.

Before setting up I always take a look at my opponents army list. I check for anything out of the ordinary, is there building demo dedicated unit, does he have very few on the ground scouring units.
