Follow OB at the UK Games Expo

This weekend we are off to not-so-sunny-probably-rainy Birmingham to game our sweet little arses off! All Saturday day time we will be DzCing at the tournament, and the rest of the time gaming in some way or another. If you fancy checking out the action I will be updating our Twitter all weekend long; from 7am Friday morning to 7pm Sunday evening. You can find us at:

@OBDZC

Also, we’re going to be wiped out come Monday, so don’t expect any blog posts immeadiately!

The Oppressors Of Burningham

Yeehaw!
I'm getting that feeling again. That anticipatory feeling that makes the hair on the back of your next stick up. That uncomfortable feeling that makes your feet sweat unnaturally, and causes you to change your socks multiple times throughout a day. The unerring feeling that forms a pit at the bottom of your stomach, and seems to turn and twist uncomfortably. It’s that all too familiar feeling of an incoming tournament! Although that last feeling could well be an embryonic chestburster… I best get that checked out...

What are the Shaltari drawbacks?

I don't think the Shaltari have any drawbacks.
.........there, I said it.

Now think about it for a bit.
They really don't.

In this post I will be discussing what I have just said. Also what I mean by it too. I might even draw some conclusions and possibly some solutions. Who knows?

OB Podcast Episode 7 - Tournamentitis

There is something sweeping through the OB offices and its hit all of us hard; even those of a human-cyborg Spherish persuasion. It’s been clouding our thoughts, and keeping us tossing and turning all night long, muttering random words squakishly in our sleep like 'Recon’, ‘Targets Of Opportunity’ and ‘Spamtari’. What’s the plague that has fallen upon us?

Tournamentitis!

I Can't Wait To Get Feral

Why won't Hawk allow this?
Scourge are fun. Fact. They are probably the most fun race in the game to use! There is something about their full on aggressive nature which is simply delightful, and can cause the most subdued gamer to start laughing manically as their opponents remove all of their models from the warzone. But...

I have been using the Jellys pretty intensely since last September, and I yearn for something else. Something different. The red mist which falls once I enter 'host mode' is becoming a little too claustrophobic, and the play style all too familiar.

Enter the Resistance.

Leave No Stone Unturned.

Please don't be a bomb, please don't be a bomb, please don't be a bomb.

Hello, long time no write.
Its me Edchopp (Dan insists I note here that I am AKA Techboy 2000) and I'm here to write up an idea that Mega Mike and I had on Tuesday regarding a scenario.

I’m Getting Into Stalking

My alien rams close on their foe
The grating clash of metal on concrete rings sharply as I move up the alley, the shadow cast by the dark alley obscuring me from my chosen victim. As the rain lashes down onto my carapace, I slowly edge forward in anticipation of the kill. Making sure as not to spook my target, I ready myself before preparing to spring. The intense feeling of energy heating inside for my weapons almost causes me to surge forward, and I use all my will to restrain myself. I can see it now; the gleaming metal hull shining resplendent in the dusk, its sheen emphasised by the storm. I realise it doesn't know I am there, and with glee pounce out at my victim internally screaming:

STOMPSTOMPSTOMPZAPZAPSTOMPZAP!!

Warning systems blared out at the Odin pilot, and while twisting the hull of her warmech 180 degrees to face the alien she chuckled condescendingly as the impending ‘threat’ emerged from the alley. Hitting the mental trigger she let loose her Railgun into the bulbous body of the Stalker, reducing it to nothing more than a smouldering wreck within seconds.

CE Tournament Review: The Opening Gambit

Sunday was a good day. We only had 1 month to plan and organise Critical Engagement. I think it turned out pretty damn well.
We had 14 players, the most we've ever had for a non-Invasion DzC tournament. I think Salute helped, as we could talk to lots of people about the game.

Watch out for the super jellyfish attack. The Scourge are coming
So on to my Sunday. I took my glorious green Scourge. This wasn't my choice. As a joint organiser I said to Zombie that I will submit 3 lists and he can pick one. The only 'tournament sensible' list I submitted was my Air Supremacy UCM list, the Scourge and Shaltari ones were a bit silly.

Critical Engagement - May 2015

The champ retains his title, congratulations Joe Whiddett! For his efforts
he won an Orbital Laser and very limited metal Avenger ship!
Gather round one, and all! Come closer- come on, there's room up the front. Can you all see and hear now? Good, as I have a tale of valour, luck and potential surprise for you all!

I am happy to declare Critical Engagement a success, with a grand total of 14 players turning up to play toy soldiers with us! 14 may not sound like a huge amount, but I think it may be the biggest independent tourney in the UK yet. We were joined by gamers from all over, and even a couple of the Hawk lads came down to have a go.

The valour, luck and surprise belong to Joe Whiddett who won by the narrowest of margins with his Feral Resistance force. He pipped Mike's Scourge to the post by a measly 1 VP! I'm going to go ahead and speak for everyone when I say we had a gay old time, and hope to see more people down in the future.

The Hidden Gem...

I wouldn't normally mention a newsletter on the blog because everybody has it, and it isn't really our style. We'll leave relaying news to Naftka!

However, did anyone else spot the above gem hidden away amongst the other new releases? Could this be the PHR 'drone controller' which has been rumoured for a while?

Hmmmmmm....
