The return of the UCM

Critical Engagement is looming fast, and even though I have started a new army (Shaltari) I just can't bring myself to take an unpainted army to the tournament.
So I'm going to take my UCM.......... with a little bit of difference.

I wonder if these guys need a 2+ to make an attack run???

I'm bringing the sexy back and having Archangels.
With the new Forward Air Controllers rule, it should help with the reliability. Also whisper it.........no Ferrum!

Below is the list I want to take, I know it has deficiencies but I quite like it. I'm going to struggle against most Aircraft, but I think I bring enough ground attack to mess up anything. My Archangels will be going after rogue light dropships. Having them means that opponents can't stay on board and have to deploy into buildings, where the rest of the army comes into play. It can really cause havoc to buildings.
With some average rolling on turn 1 I can drop a 30dp building. That's insane!!

I'm also testing out Snipers, they give me some extra scouting ability and AA. I think with their Dispersed Formation special rule they might just be worth taking. I'll let you know next time.

So what do you think? Comment below and let me know.

There are still spaces for our 2nd Dropzone Commander tournament, come along and have some fun!

  1. Cool! Though I think that demolish armies have a tendency not to work fully in an tournament. But it is absolutely more different than most other armies! I think the most important factor is the missions used. A bunker assault will hurt.

We swedes aim to go to Invasion next time and...well,..invade so to say. It will be very interesting to see how much different our armies will be.

    1. I agree with you that the missions will really make or break this list. I played a game of military complex last night (all buildings A8) that really hurts the effectiveness of my units. I managed a win, but only just.
Team OB were looking at popping over to Sweden. I saw that you are doing a tournament at the end of November, although that is a bit soon for us, I did look at costs etc and it's not too bad. If you were to run one between April and June I think it could be a go. Especially in Stokholm - I've always wanted to visit Stokholm.

  2. Well intersting list... not sure about the missiles on the raven A's... tempt to use them and that is usually bad... maybe skip them all and get another longbow with raven b for it?

Will use the snipers too now, in a very different build tough ^^ (Pretorians and Snipers sharing Bears and Condors ^^)

    1. I had 25 points spare at the end so I thought 3 lots of missiles. I am normally dead against missiles on Ravens, as you can be tempted to shoot which could leave you out of position, but in this list 8 points for an extra E8 shot on turn 1 is a bonus.
I love longbows! Can you have 3 in a squad or are they 2/4? If I can have 3 it's only 45 pts more.
I've never been sure on Praetorians in bears, I just don't think they are manoeuvrable enough. Praetorians are crucial to get into the right building at the right time, Snipers less so.

    2. As far as i see you can even field one solitary Longbow so yes i guess that works (dont have the books or FFoR here atm) if you cancel all the missiles you have to pay for you would have exactly 45 points spare... enough for said longbow with raven ^^

in concerns to "prets in bears" (sounds funny ^^) this is a "don't go there" list... or better: drop them where the enemy need sto be point. and as they are the only exotics able to be fielded in 3 squads atm i think that might be intended...

  3. I've been a little out of the loop, what dos the forward air controllers rule do?

    1. FAC is a new rule in the Reconquest book. You assign 1 squad of Troops to be forward air controllers (free to do) and if they can see any enemy unit, you receive a +1 to make and Attack run or Intercept with fast movers. This makes the attack run automatic

  4. Interesting list. I do not like the Ferrum at all, so this is a definitive plus.
Can a troop forward air controller use the ability when they are mounted in a transport?

    1. I'm not sure. It's an interesting question. Is the transport part of the squad? If so then, only the vehicle would need LoS. I think I need to check the book!

    2. The rule is for a single troops squad, rather than their transport, so I don't think so. I'm pretty sure Hawk want people to line the walls with their troops, maybe to make it more 'thematic'?

    3. I think you are right and it is much better to encourage people to put at least one infantry squad somewhere on the table instead of the typical "sit in the chopper" thing.
Although it would be cool, if the praetorian snipers were able to fulfill the job.
