How much is too much? - Conclusion

Too many ducks, or just enough?
Finally, my long journey to find the answer to my demanding question has come! Can you spam units and still be competitive in Dropzone? To briefly recap, I love this game due to it's balance, and have been on a mission to see if it is possible to 'break' it by spamming a strong unit.

Since my last post on this topic, I have played out two games against a UCM and PHR army with some interesting results. Let's remind ourselves of my army list again:

The New Standard

Just before Christmas Hawk tantalised us with their advent calendar, showing close up shots of the new releases, followed soon after by full pictures of the new models due to hit the shelves in the following quarter. Slowly but surely after Christmas the new models were released, expanding the standard and support slots (as well as a few other more specialised slots) to give a nice broad range of base choices, which in my opinion the game needed.

The expansion of standard slots for all armies (except the PHR who have a few already) had been a long time coming, and from general opinion Hawk didn't fail to disappoint! Each unit is different enough to its fellow counterpart, but are the new units equal to, better or worse than the existing ones? As they have been out for a few months now and the necessary play testing has been done, I thought it would be worth comparing them with the first units, along with a couple of non-standard units before the rules are cemented in concrete in the new expansion book (Reconquest: Phase 1).

So here we go. We’re going right now. So don’t go away. Are you ready? You should be. Because here we go!

Bring me a base line – continued...

Geriatric Garage
With various commitments and the 'how much is too much' games I have been playing lately, my poor Scourge have been neglected a little, so I thought it was about time I swung back to the jellys and let you know how they were going!

Last time I focused on the bases of my grav tanks, so this time round I will be tackling one of the flying bases, more specifically for my Desolator.

Spacezone Commander - Salute 2014 and a few rumors (and truths)

We're going to need more Jaguars. Lots more Jaguars.
By now you may have heard the biggest news from Hawk from Salute 2014 (as it is being posted everywhere right now!); they have confirmed that they will be making a new spaceship game with Andy Chambers! Most wargamers will know who Mr Chambers is, and I for one am very excited on the prospect of him and Dave squeezing their brains together for a brand new game! Also I know that he has been commissioned in, so this will still be owned by Hawk Wargames.

Resistance is futile - Salute 2014

My dropships bigger than yours
Team Orbital Bombardment is now back from Salute, and you will be pleased to hear that my camera has only just cooled down after taking lots of pics of Hawk's excellent stand and display items, and rather more excitedly pictures of some of the new resistance models!

I have added in below all the pictures you people really want to see; the new Resistance models! I will give a slightly more in depth pan of the day, including some exciting rumours that graced our ears (some of which involving a colossal dropship) and some general pics of the stand. Enjoy!

How much is too much? – Evidence so far

The question of too many continues...
You may remember a short while ago I posed a simple question, one directed to shake the very foundations of the game itself – is it possible to spam units and still be competitive in Dropzone Commander? As is my nature, I may have inflated the question a little there, but never the less it is a query worth asking. If you can't remember, or simply haven't read my first post, then click here to do so (otherwise the following will mean very little to you. Feel free to continue, but I am telling you now it's not worth it.)!

A Salute to fellow warriors of the Cradle Worlds

This is a very brief post to inform all you lovely, beardy, commandery people that at this years Salute (ExCel Centre London) Hawk Wargames will have the pleasure of our company for the day! I'm not sure pleasure is the correct word here, but I'm going to roll with it.

Myself, Mega Mike, Skull Sword, Edchopp and (our non-blogging but still big member) Sargent Slaughter will be putting on a couple of show games, running demo games, and being generally very geeky for the Hawk crew, so if your going to be down this year come on over and say hello!

A whole new monster – Scourge v UCM

Because even monsters need to relax sometimes
Good day fellow zoners! This is a post of new beginnings for me, as the other day I played my first game with my Scourge and bloody loved it! I had the privilege of playing my friend Snowman (real name disclosed through cause of the Scourge witness protection program) in a 1000 point targets of opportunity (three objectives in three central large buildings), using a Clash army structure. This was his second game ever (after beating our Edchopp in his first) and although the battle may have ended a little one sidedly (spoiler alert) my way he did the marines proudly! Hoorah and all that jazz.
